SUNDAY JULY 19

Today we FINALLY got to Woodward! We started our morning bright and early. We left Cleveland, OH at 8:30 this morning. We stopped at a Denny’s for some breakfast. Chase kept us entertained with the paper bag puppet he created. The boys were big boys at breakfast this morning, each ordering a cup of coffee! After we finished breakfast we were on the road again! (And yes, we did sing that song…) We drove through a very hilly Pennsylvania for the majority of the day. As we neared Camp we came upon MANY horses and buggies…the kids were quite excited. (Chase and Rachel took some good pics of them…Chase even sang a song about them)- hopefully I can get this off of their cameras to share with all you proud parents! We pulled into Camp Woodward right at 2:00. We checked in without any issues and proceeded to the kids’ cabins! The girls are in 16B and the boys are in 9B. The kids then unpacked, made their beds. Katey learned how to make a bed, as she shared with us her mom always does it for her- what a nice mom Kelly! The girls got all settled in and changed for “testing”. I will not be able to see the boys’ cabin (being a girl) but Chase shared with us that it is really nice and smells good. I guess we will have to take his word for it. In the meantime I got checked in as a visiting coach and received my housing (Woodward Inn- about a mile from camp, it is uhhh quite hmmm homey?- if that is the right word?) We then went off to the Tumble Gym for testing, where we found out there are only 11 Power Tumblers at Camp this session so we would not need to “test” and we would all be at the same time. One of the other coaches mentioned we could play in the gym as long as I stayed with the kids. So we did just that! The kids played and had some open gym for about an hour and a half. The excitement on their faces was priceless! A WHOLE GYM to themselves with all the tumbling equipment you could imagine. In the tumbling gym there is 4 trampolines, 2 rod floors, a gymnastics floor, a tumble trak, and a double mini. There are also 3 pits! The kids tested out all the equipment and had a blast. We met Tom Hamblin in the Tumbling gym, who was quite excited to see us, he will be one of the kids’ coaches while we are here. We played in the gym until 5ish and then split up for dinner, there are 3 different places to eat, John, Katey, and Caitlyn went off to find something while Chase, Rachel and I ate at the Chicken Grill. Mmmm mmm! The food was really good, or we were just really hungry! I then left the kids to check in to my fancy accommodations! The kids then headed back to their cabins to get ready for their tour of the Camp by their Cabin Counselors. I met up with the kids in the Barn Gym for Camp Orientation at 6:30. They introduced the camp staff, as well as the guest coaches including the DANISH TUMBLING TEAM!!! AMAZING! There are about 20 Danes here for the week! (And yes, they are staying at the same place I am)…the kids are jealous. The kids and I then split up as we each had our own “rule” discussions. When we had finished that the kids jumped into the pool and battled on the log with each other, it was QUITE entertaining! We then headed back to the Tumble Gym, where the Danes were practicing and we watched them for a bit, and then headed to the Open Gym where the kids did some Tumble Trak, Trampoline and Tumbling. We stayed at open gym for an hour-ish. The kids then went back to their cabin to have “quiet time” and then “lights out”.  Altogether it was a great first day and we are all excited for the coming days!! We will keep you posted!
